Visit Our Dentist Office for Help With Bad Breath

If you have bad breath, visit our dentist office.  The occasional bad breath after eating spicy food or garlic fries is perfectly natural.  Based on your diet, your breath will naturally smell like what you have eaten and by changing your diet, your breath should start to improve, so long as you are regularly brushing and flossing your teeth.  If, however, these common-sense solutions aren’t improving the way that your breath smells, you could have a more serious problem that requires medical attention.

In our dental office, we warn patients that bad smelling breath is a sign of an infection and could be the body’s natural way of alerting you to a problem.  With this in mind, we recommend paying attention to how you and your children’s breath smells and scheduling an appointment if something seems off.  Remember, this is not the occasional stinky breath we are talking about but a noticeable change in how the breath smells, for the worse.

When visiting our dentist office for your exam, we will start by cleaning your teeth and removing the excess plaque, tartar, and bacteria that have built up on your teeth.  This cleaning is critical to keeping you healthy and avoiding things like cavities and gum disease.  Still, many people forgo this regular appointment and doing so can increase your risk for health issues.  While cleaning and flossing your teeth, we are typically eliminating one of the triggers of bad breath since plaque buildup can smell, especially in those who don’t regularly floss.

During your dental exam, we will also look to see if you have any signs of an infection or cavities.  If you do, we will need to identify what the exact issue is and provide fast treatment.  Things like an infection in your dental pulp can emit a foul odor, and a root canal may be necessary for removing the infection and healing the tooth.  This can typically resolve the issue with bad breath but more importantly, your smile will be healthier and by paying attention to the warning signs, discomfort may be avoided as well.

The same holds true for gum disease.  This condition impacts most adults at some point in their lifetime, and mild cases can be treated with a simple deep cleaning.  If however, the condition goes undiagnosed and untreated, it can cause major health issues since pockets can be created in the gum tissue where bacteria may then gather.  This can lead to infections, bone loss, and tooth loss – all of which can be avoided by early detection and dental care.  Since bad breath is another sign of gum disease, we recommend scheduling an appointment with our dentist office if this is something you are struggling with or you notice that your gums are red, swollen, bleeding or irritated.

In our dentist office, we can get to the bottom of what is causing your bad breath or poor oral health so that you can take steps to get better.
