How a Full Mouth Reconstruction Can Alleviate Pain While Chewing

Many are familiar with the oral health and cosmetic benefits full mouth reconstruction offers. However, full mouth reconstruction can also make it easier for patients to function daily. The fact is many who have multiple oral health concerns experience daily discomfort, and full mouth reconstruction can help alleviate the symptoms.

Full mouth reconstruction and pain relief while chewing

Full mouth reconstruction aims to diagnose all oral health concerns the patient has and restore the health (and appearance) of the patient’s mouth. Among other benefits, this makes it easier to chew foods daily without experiencing increased teeth sensitivity or pain.

What causes pain while chewing?

Some patients feel pain while chewing. In other instances, the patient may experience increased tooth sensitivity (or both). In either case, the reason for the discomfort is the exposure of nerves of a tooth (or multiple teeth). Common oral health issues that can lead to pain while chewing include:

  • Tooth decay
  • Chips and cracks
  • Worn-down teeth
  • Enamel erosion
  • Deep gum pockets

Any instance in which the teeth or gums are damaged and leave the root of the tooth exposed could cause increased discomfort while chewing. A dentist can determine the root cause through an oral examination and dental X-rays.

How can a full mouth reconstruction treat tooth pain?

The way in which a dentist alleviates pain while chewing during a full mouth reconstruction treatment plan depends on the reason for the increased discomfort. Depending on the concern(s), the dentist may recommend one or more of these treatments:

  • Dental fillings
  • Dental crowns
  • Gum graft procedure
  • Deep dental cleaning
  • Root canal therapy
  • Teeth replacement

The goal is to find out why the tooth root is damaged and the root is exposed and find the most appropriate treatment solution. Ideally, the dentist can salvage all damaged teeth. If not, they can replace the teeth with an implant, fixed bridge, or removable denture during full mouth reconstruction.

The benefits of full mouth reconstruction

In addition to treating functional concerns such as an inability to chew properly and without pain, full mouth reconstruction also offers cosmetic and oral health benefits as well. Many patients become more confident in their smiles after full mouth reconstruction. Treatment can also help ensure additional oral health concerns do not develop in the future.

The ideal candidate for full mouth reconstruction

Of course, patients who have pain while chewing should visit the dentist as soon as possible, and they may be good candidates for full mouth reconstruction if they have multiple oral health concerns they would like to address. The dentist can help the patient decide if full mouth reconstruction is appropriate during the consultation visit.

Are you dealing with pain to multiple teeth while chewing?

There is a range of reasons why a patient may experience painful chewing. Full mouth reconstruction can treat most issues that cause teeth and gum discomfort, allowing the patient to once again eat the way they desire and not have to worry about oral discomfort throughout each day.
