Dental Implants: An Ideal Alternative to Traditional Dentures

Dental ImplantsWe can provide you with a secure set of dental implants to replace the dentures you are currently wearing. We understand losing teeth can be a stressful experience. In fact, for most people, it is. While no one anticipates losing teeth, it is incredibly common. Even with the advances in dental care, the majority of U.S. adults will lose at least one permanent tooth in their lifetime. Whether due to an accident, age, or infection, tooth loss is common, so the question becomes what to do when it happens to you. Traditional dentures have been the mainstay of tooth replacement for centuries, and while they are still dependable, implants are a far better solution.

Dental Implants vs. Dentures

When comparing the two options, it helps to understand the differences in regards to how they are created and placed. Dental implants are placed surgically, where dentures are secured on the outside of your gums either by surrounding them entirely or being hooked in place using a system of wires and clasps. This means that if you want to replace your lost root system and your lost tooth, you need implants. We recommend doing so for more than aesthetic reasons. With a new root system, your jawbone will receive the stimulation it needs to remain intact and avoid massive resorption. Simultaneously, your new tooth will have the stability that can only come from being attached to a root, rather than on the outside of the gums.

When it comes to appearance, an implant will also look more natural. Each implant is individually created using an impression we take, measurements, and our precise instructions. They are designed to blend in with the surrounding teeth and do so extremely well. Dentures, on the other hand, are secured to a base, which means you will not see some of the subtle nuances between the replacement teeth that you would get from natural teeth or implants. While we will ensure that any solution you receive looks healthy, natural, and beautiful, implants are the most realistic-looking.

In regards to daily activities, dentures cannot even begin to compare with dental implants. This is because dentures are removable appliances that can come loose while eating, speaking, or doing daily activities. While a proper fitting set will remain secure most of the time, this is always a risk. Since implants are surgically placed, you never have to think about your teeth, much less worry about them. Simply do what you always do, eat what you like, and trust that your teeth will support you.

It is also much easier to care for dental implants than it is for dentures. This is because an implant only needs to be brushed and flossed like your normal teeth. Dentures, on the other hand, need to be removed to be cleaned and soaked on a nightly basis. This can pose some inconveniences as additional supplies are necessary.
