5 Benefits of Dental Implants People May Not Know About

While some might prefer to have a gap in their teeth, dental implants can restore a smile to the gorgeous pearly shine others desire. Paying the bill for a dental implant is the best investment one can make in restoring the beauty and functionality of a smile. Dental implants hold numerous benefits over other tooth-replacement options as well as benefits for one’s health. Below are five of those benefits.

Natural appearance with full functionality

Dental implants will not only look natural and match the color of the other teeth, but implants will also function as the other teeth do. There may be a day or two in the beginning, where the individual needs time to adjust to the new implant, but it will not normally take too much time. Most will not be able to tell the difference between the regular teeth and the implant.

Long-lasting

The American Academy of Implant Dentistry, AAID, explains that “While dental implants may need periodic adjustments, they can last a lifetime when properly placed and cared for over time.” This long-term solution is preferable to having to visit the dentist to replace the oral appliance every several years.

Remain in the mouth

Unlike dentures or other oral appliance, dental implants remain in the mouth. Thus people can, “Brush, floss and care for teeth that have been replaced using dental implants exactly the way you would natural teeth,” the AAID explains. There is no need to remove the implant at night or special cleaning instructions. With a dental implant, one can clean without making drastic changes to the oral hygiene routine.

Eat any foods you want

While people still need to practice proper dental hygiene, dental implants do not limit the types of foods one can eat. “You can bite naturally, eat virtually anything you want,” the AAID adds. A patient who invests in a dental implant, instead of other dental restoration options, will be able to enjoy life without restrictions and with a full smile.

More protection than one might think

Not only do dental implants grant people the appearance and functionality of a full set of teeth, but dental implants can also protect the mouth. “Dental implants are the only dental restoration option that preserves and stimulates natural bone, actually helping to stimulate bone growth and prevent bone loss,” the AAID states.

A dental will also protect other teeth in the mouth. A dental implant does not require grinding down the other teeth during the installation process, as other dental products do. Also, an implant can "help prevent healthy, adjacent teeth from shifting as they would if an empty space were left for an extended period of time."

By scheduling an appointment with a dentist, you can find out if dental implants are the best choice to restore your smile. For more information, do not hesitate to call our office.
